Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician Job Specialty: None Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights - 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM (5x8 Hr) Guaranteed Hours: 40.00 hours per week Experience: 6 months preferred License: HS/GED required Certifications: CRCST or CSPDT required within 18 months of hire or transfer Must-Have: - Computer skills Job Description: - Promote improved quality and patient safety in the OR by ensuring an efficient flow of the Sterile Processing Department. - Perform routine tasks related to the decontamination, processing, sterilization, and distribution of instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies. - Responsible for operating and monitoring sterilization equipment. - Maintain records in compliance with AAMI, AORN, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards. - Facilitate the department's preparation of staff for survey and regulatory assessments. - Sterilize supplies and instruments using prescribed methods, such as steam and gas plasma (Sterrad). - Operate washer/decontaminator per department policy and procedure. - Understand the basic principles of all sterilization equipment used in the department. - Demonstrate knowledge of proper packaging methods for successful sterilization. - Assure the cleanliness of decontamination, sterilization, and equipment areas. - Validate the functioning of equipment using mechanical and biological monitors. - Ensure sterilized supplies and instruments are correctly labeled and stored correctly. - Utilize computerized tray/instrument tracking systems if applicable. - Apply knowledge of dress code related to Standard Precautions and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). - Report life safety issues, environmental concerns, or process deviations to the immediate supervisor. - Maintain a customer-friendly rapport with peers and internal/external customers. - Provide on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department or facility policy. - Assist in transporting sterilized instrumentation to operating rooms as needed. - Verify that required instrumentation is sterilized and available for upcoming procedures. - Assist in removing soiled case carts or un-sterile instrumentation from the operating room department. - Respond to problem calls from Surgery during regular business hours. - Floating may be required to any location within sixty (60) miles of the original assignment location or identified float zone. - Float assignments may include duties outside of original job requirements in accordance with policy.
